Your teachers have been taking classes themselves over the summer to be even better teachers for you! You'll see some significant changes in textbooks, the way classes are scheduled and taught, and even in the classrooms. We have several new teachers joining us. Ms. Diaz will teach third grade, Ms. Figel will teach middle school social studies and one language arts class, Ms. Boritz will work with Dr. Owens as the new special education teacher, and Mr. Koci will be moving to middle school. Ms. Booth will assist Mrs. Julie with the music program and Mr. Goldman will be on campus all day as an assistant and the drama teacher. Whew!!! There will also be a new art teacher for the middle school and some of the "old" teachers will be teaching different areas. Mrs. Julie and Mrs. Quattro are expanding the music and art programs in several exciting ways. But don't worry, you'll get your schedule at the open house meetings the week of August 11. We're thrilled about the changes and hope you will be, too.
This year we are emphasizing literacy and math. You will be expected to read nightly and learn those math facts. (I hope you've done your assigned reading and have your project ready for the first week. You won't want to miss out on the Friday popcorn party!) Try to get to the fldoe website to take a look at the new Florida Standards Assessment that replaces the FCAT in math, reading, and writing. http://www.fsassessments.org/.
Check the SAA calendar for upcoming events as things start up right away. First off is the picnic this Saturday, Aug 9. Information is on the first page of the website and you were mailed a postcard earlier in the summer. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be the open houses for all students. Those dates are also on the calendar.
If you want to stop by to sign up for PALS, we're here next week (Aug. 4 - 8) from 8:00 - 5:00. Remember that you have to re-enroll each year but it's much quicker the second time around.
Have a wonderful week! Thank you again for choosing SAA! See you Saturday.
