We have two big events this week - Halloween on Tuesday and the Book Fair on Thursday. You can see details on the SAA website. The elementary students may wear costumes Tuesday and will parade through the school and end with a sing-along on the basketball court. Parents are welcome to attend the festivities that start at 8:15. Please check with individual teachers about activities that may be taking place in classrooms during the day. The middle schoolers had their fall dance last Friday evening and were able to wear their costumes then if they wanted.
The Book Fair is an annual event that provides an economical way for students to buy books. At the same time SAA can accumulate points from the sales that can be used by the teachers to "buy" books as gifts for their students. We use these points to buy the summer reading books as well. Please support the Book Fair by volunteering time to help and by allowing your child to purchase an item from the Fair.
This week we will be having the i-ready growth monitoring assessments for reading and math in all grades and the standards mastery assessments for reading in the middle school. While these do not count as "grades" for the students, they are important. The scores give us one more piece of information that can pinpoint gaps to be addressed and whether progress is being made as expected. Please encourage your child to take these seriously.
The sixth graders will finish their science benchmark test this week. Last week the 8th graders completed the Civics and science benchmarks and the Algebra and Geometry students completed theirs. Once science is over, we will have no more until December exams.
There are several fundraising activities going on at this time. Student Council is finishing the Nature's Vision fundraiser and starting the Der Dutchman pie fundraiser. Several other groups are selling bracelets, water bottles, or drawstring bags. As always, choose what is important to you as a way to support our students; no one is expected to do everything.
I will be out of the office from tomorrow through midday November 13 due to the death of my father in Virginia. Dr. Kopacz will be available to assist you in any way she can. Please do not hesitate to call on her.
