Finally, we have reached the LAST week of FSA testing. The fifth grade math, pre-algebra, and algebra tests will be Monday through Thursday. Math is the area which we were trying to especially address this year. Friday there was a wonderful event where students from all grade levels competed in timed addition, subtraction, and multiplication drills. One kindergartner and the first graders competed in addition with the top three moving on to compete against the second graders. This continued right up through the eighth grade. When we reached the end of the competition we had students from almost every grade who made it through. You will find a list of the winners on the the SAA webpage. It was wonderful to see so many students enter the contest and the excitement as the rest of the school cheered on their classmates. Thanks to Mr, Kolowith for putting this all together and for Capstan Financial for sponsoring the day. Thank you also to the students and teachers who participated. It was delightful seeing students excited about math.
I have a message to pass on from Ms. Julie regarding the remaining spring musicals:
1. The music department would like to thank all the parents and students who worked at the many locations on Saturday to raise money for "42nd Street". We raised $1000 of much needed money for this production. We ask parents to please continue to encourage everyone you know to attend this fantastic production. We need to sell 600 tickets. We also have the beautiful trifold boards with colorful pictures we used on Saturday available for anyone who would like to display one at their place of business. If you would like to display one call Julie at 941-544-4232 or see her at school.
2. Tomorrow, Monday, May 8th, is our first ever production of Alice In Wonderland at Glenridge Performing Arts Center at 6 pm. Tickets can still be purchased by turning in the ticket form in the morning or at the door. Third and fourth grade students will be at Glenridge most of the school day tomorrow. The bus leaves at 8:15 am and returns at 3:15 pm. Students need to wear their costumes to school in the morning. The "flowers" should not wear their costumes but must bring them in the bag they were given. There was a mix up on costumes so they will change as soon as they get to the theater with the right costume. This is a very difficult but visually beautiful production. Anyone is welcome to attend. Please invite friends and family. Please remember to turn in permissions for the rehearsal tomorrow if you have not already done so.
The May Governing Board meeting is being postponed from tomorrow to May 15th due to testing. The SAC will meet Wednesday at 4:15 PM for the last monthly meeting of this year. Monday night is the 3rd/4th grade production of Alice in Wonderland at the Glenridge Theatre at 6:00 PM. Wednesday night all new kindergartners and their parents are invited to come meet Ms. Curulla and pick up a package of fun activities to help be prepared for next August. Thursday the parents of first graders are invited to "moving up night" to get ready for second grade with Mr. Kolowith. Friday is the Mothers' Day Breakfast for this year's kindergarten students and moms. Don't forget to put the 18th on your calendar for the Visual and Performing Arts evening.
Have a wonderful week!
