Good morning! Our advanced chorus and several staff members will be participating in the Memorial Day parade by singing for the closing ceremony at JD Hamel Park at 11:00 this morning. Please join them if you can as we remember those who gave their lives protecting our freedom.
Last Thursday we completed the last of the spring musicals with the production of 42nd Street. Congratulations to all of the students on an excellent job and thank you to the staff and parents who gave so much time to make it happen. Ms. Julie has asked I share the following:
All five of our Spring Broadway musicals are now complete and I want to express my gratitude to the students for their incredibly hard work, the parents for supporting their children in so many ways, and our staff for putting in the extra effort necessary when they teach at a school with performing arts. None of this would be possible without the full support of our principal, administration, and board of directors. It was so much fun for me to watch the progression of the abilities from the kindergarten through the middle school.
Our final performance was "42nd Street" at the Sarasota Opera House last Thursday night with our middle school students. The quality of that performance was outstanding due largely to the amazing tap and dance routines. Our co-director and choreographer, Vanessa Russo, used much of the original Broadway choreography and these students performed it brilliantly. When you consider that many of these students did not tap until this school year it is even more amazing. It just shows that when you have a very talented teacher, dedicated students, and high expectations for those students, anything is possible.
We had a wonderful, appreciative audience. If you'd still like to make a tax deductible donation toward covering the expenses associated with the productions, we would greatly appreciate it.
Again, a huge thank you to everyone in our SAA family for a wonderful and exciting year! I feel we are all very fortunate to be able to work together in this wonderful, unique school.
It is hard to believe how fast this year has passed. We are still in session until June 6 and many of the students are working on special cross-curricular projects that need completing this week. Last week, the Kindergarten, first, second, third, and fifth grades had their end-of-the year field trips and it sounded like everyone had a great time. Thank you to all of the chaperones. This week, the fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will be away.
Yearbooks will be distributed Tuesday. Look for a message from Kelly Marsh regarding extra ones that may be available.
This week we also have the award and promotion ceremonies. You should have received announcements from the homeroom teacher. Please contact the office if you need more information. The eight grade graduation will be Monday, June 5th at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Fruitville. Graduates should arrive by 5:30; ceremony begins at 6:00. The advanced chorus will sing. After the ceremony we will return to SAA for pizza and cake for all guests. This will be followed by the final middle school dance which ends at 10:30 PM.
The Luau will be Tuesday, the last day of school, from 12 noon until 4:00 PM. Please remember there is no school lunch that day. Everyone will have hot dogs, chips, and dessert provided by the school. Also remember there is no after care on the last day.
The Governing Board will have their annual meeting on Monday, June 5, at 8:00 AM in the administration building. It will be followed immediately by a strategic planning meeting looking at future plans for SAA.
Have a wonderful week!
