Congratulations to Ms. Garabedian and the third graders. This year we had 100% of the class pass the Reading FSA and move on to fourth grade. We met the district average for percentage of students who met proficiency levels - 71%. Way to go, third grade!
The art festival Thursday night was delightful. It was wonderful to see how many outstanding artists we have in the visual and digital arts classes. Ms. Tippet, Ms. Walter, and Ms. Bryan had been collecting work from students all year and had an impressive display of student work. The students of Mr. Bryan, who assists Ms. Julie with the chorus classes and teaches musical instruments in the aftercare program, performed original compositions on the bucket drums and boom-whackers. Two of the drama groups performed one-act plays and the dance class showed off their tapping abilities. It was great to see the talent we have here at SAA.
A note from Ms Julie regarding 42nd Street:
The week of our Broadway musical 42nd Street is here! All those months of hard work and after school rehearsals will culminate in a fantastic performance this Thursday, May 25th, at 7 PM in the Sarasota Opera House. The students will practice their show in school from 1 to 4 Monday and Tuesday and then will go to the Opera House all day Wednesday and Thursday to rehearse for the performance Thursday night. All middle school students in the show have received permission slips and an information form multiple times. Some have still not been turned in. Any forms still missing will go home Monday night and MUST be returned on Tuesday morning. Please ask your child for them tomorrow evening. An exact schedule of this busy week was also sent home last week but will be sent home again tomorrow.
Parents, this is your last chance to encourage everyone you know to come to this remarkable show. I promise you anyone that sees this show will have three hours of incredible entertainment and fun. Please take a little time to post information on social media sites, send emails, and talk to friends, neighbors, and co-workers. These students have worked so very hard and really deserve a full house to appreciate their talent and tremendous effort. We have a few additional posters in the office if you would like one to put up as a final reminder. Any help you can provide us to fill the Opera House Thursday night would be greatly appreciated! Go to www.sarasotaopera.org to purchase tickets on line or call the box office at 941-328-1300. Thank you.
Students who have library books or computers or tablets that have been taken home should return them by this Friday, May 26. Any textbooks which were loaned out as at-home copies should also be returned. Please be sure all chargers and computer accessories are returned at the same time. There are also a few sports uniforms that need to be returned. Missing or damaged computers and/or accessories will incur a charge per the agreement signed when they were loaned out. Thank you for your cooperation in returning these items on time and in good repair.
Please check the information sent home with permission slips as to extra costs, times of departure and arrival back at school for the end-of-year trips occurring this week. Second, third, and fifth will be away from school on the 23rd and kindergarten and first will be gone on the 26th.
There are quite a few items in the "lost and found" bin. We will display them this week then send any unclaimed items to Good Will on Friday, May 26. If you are missing clothing, please check these out. Also, please remember to bring your lunch and extended care accounts up to date. (There will be no school lunch service or aftercare on June 6th, the last day of school.)
Finally, on behalf of all the staff, thank you so much to the PTO and parents who sent in donuts, candy, flowers and cards and provided lunches. You outdid yourself!
Have a great week.
