It's back to school tomorrow! I hope everyone had a great spring break and has adjusted to the time change. We have only a couple of weeks left in the third quarter then we are into the home stretch. The group who braved the cold and snow to visit New York over the break have returned safely. According to Ms. Julie they had a great time and are all ready to move there as soon as they turn 18!
This week we are looking forward to our first Career Days event for the middle school. Thursday and Friday we will have visitors representing many career opportunities here to talk with the students. All seventh and eighth graders are taking US History and Career Exploration as their social studies course this year. To meet the requirements we decided to have a Career Fair in addition to the in-class lessons. Ms. Farmer has a great line-up ready for the students. Since the sixth graders did not want to be left out, all of the middle schoolers will be engaged in the activities.
Tuesday the 8th graders will go to the Asolo Theater to see Born Yesterday. Last week the Asolo players came to SAA to preview the play which helps prepare the students for what they will see so it is more meaningful and can be incorporated into their other studies. Students should wear their SAA polo shirts. We have a limited number available in the office for students who do not have one.
Tuesday night is Family Night at Sky Zone Trampoline Park, sponsored by the PTO. Please see the website and the second page of the newsletter for details. We hope to see you there.
It's shaping up to be a busy weekend for the music department. Friday night the Advanced Chorus, "High Voltage", will perform at the Sarasota County Fair. Stop by the main stage to listen to the SAA students. Then Saturday Ms. Julie and Mr. Bryan could use your help between 9 AM and 2 PM getting ready for the musicals. They are looking for people to help with building props and putting together costumes. Ms. Julie wants to remind everyone that sponsorships and ads are due Wednesday March 29 for all of the plays. I am excited that the digital arts classes are designing the playbills this year but they need to stick to their schedule to have everything ready for the printer. Please don't be late; you don't want your ad to be left out.
Saturday the students who were the poster contest winners for "Attendance Counts" will be attending the Orioles vs. Twins spring training game at Ed Smith Stadium. The winner from each grade level will be recognized at the game. See you there!
Don't forget to encourage your child to prepare for the FSA tests coming up by visiting www.fsassessments.org for the practice tests. The third grade reading assessment is next week, March 28 and 29
The Governing Board meeting has been postponed until March 27. Have a wonderful week.
