I hope everyone is enjoying the three-day weekend. Since we are closed tomorrow, the hard copies of the newsletters will go home Tuesday. Here's a challenge for the students ... Why are schools closed on Monday?
There are fewer events scheduled this week so teachers can concentrate on the final review for the FSA-Writing assessment that is on Tuesday, February 28. The middle schoolers will go to the Van Wezel on Wednesday to see the Alvin Ailey Dance team perform. This is for all middle school students, not just those in the music classes as we feel it is important to expose all of our students to various art experiences. Thursday we have the February birthday cake at lunchtime and the SAC meeting in the administration building at 4:15. Then Saturday is our second annual "Lunch and a Play" between noon and 4:00 PM. See the attached flyer and the website for more information. Come see our drama and dance students show what they can do! Many thanks to Kaia Leeds' (7th grade) dad for volunteering to upgrade our stage area. It looks great!
Thank you to the parents and students who supported the sixth graders Saturday at the Applebees breakfast. The trip to NASA and the student t-shirt are now paid for so the only cost to students will be their food and spending money. Way to go, sixth graders!
I want to give you some future dates so they are on the calendar as you make plans for Spring and the end of the year. Teachers will be sending information on the end-of-year field-trips shortly. All trips occur during the last two full weeks of school. Spring break is March 13 - 17. The dates of some of the musicals have changed so check the calendar and letters from Mrs. Julie for those. Kindergarten graduation is May 23. 8th grade graduation is June 5. The last day of school is June 6.
Friday was the last day to turn in re-enrollment forms for next year so that the student name would be kept on the list. Tuesday we will place the names of all those who submitted their forms on the roster then use the lottery method to fill in spots with new students so that we have a full class. You can still submit your form to be added if there are open spots as we don't always fill up with the first lottery period. We would certainly like to see all of our students return. Kindergarten through third grade can have 18 students per grade, 4th and 5th can take 20 each, and middle school can take 40 each. We are at capacity this year and expect to be next year.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. See you Tuesday!
