I was unable to write the newsletter yesterday because I was doing last minute preparation for our charter renewal meeting with the Sarasota School Board. Several of our Governing Board members and administrative staff accompanied me to the school board workshop this morning. We were there to present an overview of our 5-year history and answer their questions relating to the information we had submitted. The meeting went very well and we will hear in March or April how long a contract we are awarded. You can catch the proceedings on the Education Channel if you are interested.
Tomorrow is the NAEP (Nation's Assessment of Educational Progress) test in civics and geography for the eighth graders. Please try to be here so the test administrators do not have to come back another day to retest.
As you saw on the calendar, the play pictures for K - 5th grade are tomorrow and Footloose photos are on Thursday. Middle school students not in the play will have enrichment classes between 8AM - 2PM.
Please put March 6 on your calendar so you do not schedule any student appointments before 10:30 AM. We will be doing the FSA Writing assessment in 4th - 8th grades from 8:00 - 10:30 that morning. I will send a separate letter to you through snail mail informing you of testing rules. Once we finish the writing assessment, we will not have any more FSA tests until early April.
You may have noticed the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office vehicles here this morning. The Patrol Bureau has added us to their circuit just to check on us regularly as they do for the other schools in this area. As requested by the district safety and security office, we will be having a third planned lock down drill next week. We already practice monthly fire drills and twice-yearly tornado drills. While we do not want students to live in fear, we want to be as prepared as we can for any emergency.
Have a great week!
