Progress reports will be sent home Monday for 3rd through 8th grade. The kindergarten, first, and second grades will have parent conferences instead of the written reports. The report cards changed this year for kindergarten and first grade so a conference will present a more accurate picture of your child's progress than a written report. Parents of middle school students will also receive letters describing the results of the FAIR (reading) assessment they took last week.
Parents of students in grades K - 5 will have an opportunity to follow their child's daily schedule at the Back-to-School evenings scheduled for this week. K - 2 will meet Tuesday, September 30 from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Third through fifth grades will meet Wednesday, October 1 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM). Teachers will describe classroom policies and expectations, what the courses cover, and plans for the year. They will also assist you in accessing the digital materials and support available to you and the students. Students have access to digital textbooks and e-sources we purchase from the school district and other vendors. This is not a time for individual conferences, but you could schedule one for another day while you are here. It is very important that you attend these programs. We hope you will be able to come. (The middle school will have their Back-to-School night on Monday, October 6 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM.)
Next month we are concentrating on improving attendance and respect. Watch for more information. We will be giving out awards for students with exemplary attendance during September at a ceremony in early October. There is a definite correlation between attendance and academic success, and we need your help in having your child arrive on time and in school.
PTO is sponsoring Spirit Week this week. Join the fun and show your school spirit by wearing your best mismatched clothes Monday. Tuesday you'll need to dress for school pictures. (We're trying it again!) Who's your favorite superhero? Wednesday is the day to show just which superhero you'd like to be. Thursday get out your country or western clothes and Friday wear something supporting your favorite sports team. Neon Day was moved to next Monday because of Picture Day.
There is another restaurant night to raise funds for field trips this Monday at Lee Roy Selmon's. You do not need a flyer, but do tell your server that you are from Sarasota Academy of the Arts. You can go at any time that day. Please do not feel you are expected to attend all of these. It's great if you can because all of the proceeds go into the field trip account for SAA. That way we can keep down the costs and more students can participate.
The volleyball team has two more games this week and a car wash to raise funds for gym rental and referees. The car wash will be Saturday, October 4.
Have a wonderful week!
