Parents of kindergarten through 5th graders should have received the first quarter report cards last Thursday. I understand there are some comments where the number and legend do not agree with what the teachers entered. If you have questions, please let me know. We have not received the middle school report cards yet but will send them home as soon as we do. Please call if you need a conference or have questions.
The first award ceremonies for academics and attendance will be this Thursday in the afternoon. Kindergarten and first grade students will not be eligible for honor roll because they do not receive letter grades this time. Students in 2nd through 5th grade could earn "A" or "A/B" honor roll certificates and tokens. All K-5th students who have had exemplary attendance (no absences or tardies OR no absences and 3 or less tardies) will also receive certificates and tokens. The middle schoolers will recognized based on grade point averages of 3.5 and higher. Second quarter we will also recognize those students who show overall improvement.
We received word that the Spring FSA Writing assessment will be paper and pencil for 4th through 7th graders. The eighth graders will have to complete the assessment on the computer. We are delighted that the Department of Education responded to the concerns of administrators, teachers and parents regarding this assessment. The assessment is in March.
We are looking forward to the Literacy Night event on Tuesday. On Wednesday the November WCTDYWB birthday cake will be shared by all of the students with November birthdays. I hope everyone receives their post card invitation on time this month. Then Friday night is the first middle school dance. The cost of admission is $5.00 plus a canned item for the Mayors Feed the Hungry Campaign that starts this week.
Be sure to check out the schedule of events for this week. Finally, congratulations to the Girls' Basketball Team who won their first game last Thursday!
Have a great week!
