Good afternoon! We are heading into the home stretch with only 14 days left in the school year! Please check calendars carefully as there are lots of events planned for these least three weeks.
The week starts off with the Civics EOC for the seventh graders on Monday and Tuesday. This finishes the testing for this year. Now we just wait for the scores!
Also on Monday is the K-5 field trip to Florida Studio Theatre for the final "Write a Play" production. One of our second graders, Layana Taylor, received an honorable mention for her submission and will be recognized at the Theatre. Congratulations, Layana! That same day, the fifth graders will be participating in the annual Law Day activities with a mock trial in the afternoon.
Tuesday we celebrate our outstanding artists in grades K-8. You received a flyer last week. Please let us know if you will be present for the dinner (hot dogs, chips, drinks, and dessert) so we purchase enough food. If you remember, we ran out of hot dogs at the Literacy Night.
Thursday is the Volunteer Dinner for volunteers who have recorded 25 or more hours at the Volunteers Count (formerly PALS) website. If you have not received an invitation and think you should have, please contact me by Tuesday so you can enter your hours. Ask Kathy to put you through to me when you call. We want to recognize everyone who has supported the school and the students but can only do so if your hours are in the system.
A special thank you to Wells Fargo Community Connection Project for the $1000.00 award. We will use it to fund the summer reading program. Please continue to sign up so we have an accurate count. The camp runs Monday through Thursday July 11-28. Call for more information if you do not have your flyer.
End of year recognitions will be done differently this year to hopefully alleviate some of the parking issues. All parents are welcome. You should have received information from your child's homeroom teacher, but in case you haven't, here's a quick reminder. Please contact the homeroom teacher for more information.

Notes from the music department (Mrs. Julie):
It has been an incredibly busy five weeks in the elementary music department. All four elementary musicals have now been performed brilliantly! The final show was last Monday. The 5th grade performed Peter Pan Jr. and what a show it was! Thanks to the efforts of Tino Wallenda with help from John Nock, Peter Pan got to fly through the air. It was spectacular. But something else happened in that show that was very significant. Two of the five "Lost Boys" were "lost" to our show at the last minute due to illness and injury. The other Lost Boys pulled together on their own and covered all the lines and action. There was so much teamwork in that production and that's what it is all about. Putting on these types of productions teaches so many life lessons. And never was it more evident than in this production. Great job Team 5th Grade!
The final show for the 2015-16 school year will be the Middle School's presentation of the famous Cole Porter 1962 Broadway Musical "Anything Goes". We hope parents of elementary students will bring their children to see this great show which features fabulous dances choreographed by the talented and creative Vanessa Russo, beautiful costumes and sets, and a very funny script. Please remember to get your tickets and invite everyone you know to come to the show which is Friday, May 27th, at 7 pm at the Players Theatre. You can purchase tickets on line at www.theplayers.org or by calling the theatre. Also, please take a picture of the poster and put it on your Facebook or Instagram. We want a full house to appreciate the incredible efforts of this talented cast!
We have one more EXTREMELY important workday this Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm. We need painters and builders! We also must transport the platform units to the Players Theatre at 5 pm this Sunday night (May 22). We need a truck and 2 men to do this. Please let Julie know ASAP if you can help with either the workday or the Sunday afternoon move. Call or text her at 941-544-4232 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org. If anyone has a toy machine gun and/or 3 matching "deck chairs", could we borrow them for the show? If you do, please call, text, or email me immediately. Thanks in advance!
Have a great week!
