This week we can finally say we are done with testing! We will get results of third grade reading this week but most results will come at the end of the school year. You will, of course, receive mailed copies of test reports in early summer. This week the Kona Ice Truck will be here on Thursday for all of the students to enjoy shaved ice sponsored by one of our Governing Board members to reward the students for their hard work (and endurance) during the assessment season.
Tomorrow night is the final elementary class musical at the Glenridge Theatre. The fifth graders will present Peter Pan at 6:00 PM. Students who need mics should arrive at 5:00; all others at 5:30. You can buy tickets at the door or pre-order in the office and pick them up at the theater. The fifth graders will be at Glenridge most of the day for their final rehearsal and the third and fourth graders will attend the dress rehearsal in the early afternoon.
This is an active week for the students. Tuesday (5/16) the fourth and fifth grades will attend the Van Wezel performance of "Dr. Kaboom: It's Just Rocket Science." There is a PTO skate night on Wednesday, 5/17. The Kindergarten through 5th graders go to Florida Studio Theatre on Wednesday, 5/18 and Thursday night is our first Visual and Performing Arts Showcase from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Come join us for hotdogs then browse through the visual and digital art displays and watch the drama, music, and dance performances. Activities will be taking place throughout the campus. Since we are Sarasota Academy of the Arts, our students want to show off what they have accomplished this year. Please come show your support of their efforts.
Ms. Julie would like to remind everyone of the following: "We have currently sold 250 seats for "42nd Street". We need to sell 600. Please remember to invite everyone you know to attend! This is a fantastic show with the same backdrops used in Professional Broadway productions, stunning costumes and unbelievably difficult tap routines executed beautifully by our highly skilled tappers trained by the incomparable Vanessa Russo. This is one you do not want to miss and you want all your friends to see! Get your tickets on line at sarasotaopera.org. Please advertise it on social media. Thanks for your support." Also, she asks that the information forms from the students in the musical be turned in tomorrow.
You have probably seen the many articles in the news lately relating to the Netflix series "Thirteen Reasons Why". Sarasota County Schools has added a link for parents on the students and parents page of their website, www.sarasotacountyschools.net, under the heading Guidance Tips for Parents. I encourage you to read it.
If you are in need of glasses frames for your family, one of our parents, Holly Hassler, has donated quite a few on behalf of Ioptics where she is an optician. You could take the frames to any doctor or optician to have the lenses fitted. Please contact one of us in the office if you have questions.
