Everyone seems to have survived the first of the spring assessments. The writing assessment for fourth through eighth grades was last Tuesday and there are no more until March 29th when the third and fourth graders have math and language arts. I would remind students to use the practice tests and i-Ready to continue honing their skills. The third grade reading test is particularly important.
Yesterday was the Applebee's pancake breakfast fundraiser to cover transportation for the music classes. There was a wonderful turnout - close to 100 people and about $900.00 was raised. Thank you so much to those who came and/or made donations and especially to the parents and students who acted as greeters, waitstaff, and table bussers. The students did a great job! There will be another pancake breakfast for transportation on May 7.
The sixth graders will sponsor an Applebee's breakfast on April 16 to raise money for their trip to Kennedy Space Center and the seventh graders will hold one on April 23 to help defray the cost of their trip to the Everglades. Everyone is invited.
In other music news, the tickets for Anything Goes go on sale Monday and Tuesday for major leading cast members (those staying two or more days a week for after-school rehearsal). Wednesday and Thursday minor leads (those staying one day per week after school) can purchase their tickets. All others can begin purchasing on Friday, March 11. Tickets are NOT available at school. You must get them directly from the Players' Theatre by calling the box office at 941-365-2494. The earlier you order, the closer to the stage you can sit. The first five rows are $20.00 per seat and the rest of the seats are $15.00. There is also a $1.50 service charge per ticket. (Total ticket price is $21.50 and $16.50.)
There were about 55 solo and group auditions for the first SAA Talent Show taking place on April 1. The judges were so proud of all of those who auditioned and will release the names of those who will perform on Tuesday, March 8. It looks like there will be quite a variety of acts. We hope you will join us for the evening.
As I am sure you are aware, March 14-18 is Spring Break so there will be no newsletter next week. School will be closed but we're excited for the work that will be going on to improve our campus. The long-awaited awnings covering sidewalks and the car-line waiting area are scheduled for earlier in the week. Later in the week a new sidewalk connecting the back classrooms to the computer lab will be laid.
We continue to work on improving our attendance record. Mrs. Kathy now posts the number of students absent, tardy or having early dismissals every day in the office. Please remember that if your child does have to be absent because of illness or doctor's visit, a note is needed within three days of return to school.
PTO is scheduled for this week along with the Talent Show committee meeting. Monday morning is the Governing Board meeting for March at 8:10 AM. Please check the calendar for other events or more information.
Have a wonderful week.
