This week is a big one for the Middle School music classes. Tonight (Mar. 18) the girls and advanced choruses are performing at the Sarasota County Fair from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Next Sunday, the SAA Musical Theater Program will be the beneficiary of the Baltimore Orioles "LOCASH" concert. Tickets ranging from $15 - $40 are available to the public at www.orioles.com/LOCASH. The concert is at 7:00 PM at Ed Smith Stadium.
Tuesday is the March Governing Board meeting at 8:05 am Among other things, the Board will be recognizing the four high-impact teachers for the 2016-17 school year. The teachers are recognized throughout the state for their impact on student learning as evidenced by the FSA testing. Because it is based on FSA reading and math scores, only 4th through 8th teachers of those two subjects are eligible. Mr. Pascuzzi and Mrs. LaRose are third-time recipients and are joined this year by Mrs. Howard and Ms. McDonald. Congratulations to all of them. The SAC meeting will be Wednesday at 4:15.
And don't forget to vote on Tuesday on the referendum to continue the local option property tax that funds all Sarasota public (traditional and charter) schools. This is not a new tax but a continuation of the currently assessed $1.00/$1000 of assessed value.
Last Wednesday a number of our middle schoolers stood respectfully and silently to remember the shooting victims at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas HS on February 14. Students will address the Board this week to share their concerns about school safety. The Board itself will be discussing how we can improve the safety and security of our campus, especially given the legislation recently signed by Gov, Scott.
Thursday afternoon the charter renewal will be voted on by the Sarasota County School Board. At that meeting we will find out the number of years for the new charter. We will let you know as soon as we know.
Upcoming events: The 4th and 5th graders have a field trip to the Ringling Museum on Friday, March 23. We are closed for spring break March 26 - 30.
