We have several exciting things to report this week. The Governing Board met Monday and unanimously voted to offer the position of SAA principal to Ms. Cheryl Korwin beginning in 2018-19. We will send out more information about her background and a chance for you to meet her once she has formally accepted the position.
The Baltimore Orioles baseball organization has chosen the SAA Musical Theater program to be the recipient of proceeds from a special charity concert at Ed Smith Stadium on March 25. Ms. Julie will be sending out more information so look for the flyer. This is wonderful recognition for the school and especially the performing arts program.
Finally, keep turning in those "boxtops". And if you see a sweepstakes for boxtops on one of the participating products, please enter. We're waiting to see if we get a check in April for a contest one of our parents entered last fall. We'll let you know all the details in the middle of April if we do win anything. Keep your fingers crossed!
There is a special flyer coming home for 8th grade students and parents regarding the spring testing. The teachers will be offering tutoring/test review in the afternoons to help students prepare for the FSAs. Students are welcome to stay as many afternoons as they wish at no charge whether they are in aftercare or not. Supported areas will be algebra, civics, Spanish 1, and science. Since the test scores of the first three count towards the final average that goes on the transcript, the teachers want the students to have all the support they feel they need. The scores are particularly important for those students currently enrolled in courses for high school credit or planning to go into special honors programs in high school..
If your 8th grader is choosing a particular high school that is out of your district, be sure you have submitted all paperwork prior to 4:30 PM, March 16. Contact the School Choice office at the school district office if you need help. For special programs such as IB, AICE, Polytech, or VPA, contact the school directly.
Don't forget Friday, March 16 is a school holiday for students. It is a wrap-up day for third quarter for teachers as this quarter closes on Tuesday, March 13. The next Governing Board meeting is Tuesday, March 20 and the SAC meeting is Wednesday, March 21. And please vote Tuesday, March 20 in the special referendum. Spring Break starts March 26.
Have a great week!
