First off - thank you to all of the parents, students, and staff who participated in the Literacy Week activities. Even with the weather-necessitated changes and mix-up in food Thursday night, we had an excellent level of participation by all groups. We had more books donated this year so students who were unable to come Thursday night were able to choose several on Friday. We also celebrated School Choice Week with a performance by the middle school chorus classes on Friday. You can check out all the activities on our Twitter feed, Facebook page and YouTube channel.
Our next big event is the Variety Show on February 10. There will be a workday Saturday, February 3 to get the garden area ready. Please plan to attend the show and dinner on the 10th and if you can help in the garden on the 3rd, we would greatly appreciate it.
Another thank you goes to the Beta Club members and Mr. Bryan for their upgrading of the garden area between the elementary and middle school buildings. It look so much better!
The homeroom teachers have been busy scheduling the end of the year field trips so you should be receiving information about them soon. Remember that to chaperone you must have your Level 2 clearance - that's the fingerprint addition to your background clearance through the Volunteer Office. Instructions and information are available on our website. The fifth graders have scheduled their first bake sale for this coming Friday to raise money to help reduce the price of their field trip to Universal Studios. Students can bring money to buy goodies after school. Ingredients will be listed to avoid problems for the students with allergies. The 7th graders will be having a pajama day on the 9th to raise money for their trip to Busch Gardens. More information to follow.
January 30 is the Honor Roll Ice Cream Social for 2nd through 8th graders. Congratulations to those students. You will find their names listed on our website. Dr. Kopacz recognized those with perfect attendance earlier this month. January 31 the parents of our .English Language Learners will gather for an informative evening. Invitations were sent home by Mrs. Tirotta. Thursday starts the new month with emphasis on compassion as our Kindness Counts theme.
Save the date for graduations. Eighth graders will graduate Monday, May 21. The ceremony will be followed by pizza, cake and the end-of-the-year dance. The kindergarten graduation is tentatively set for May 16.
Finally, as I announced at Literacy Night, this will be my last year at SAA. I am retiring in June after five years here and 46 years in education. I started in 1969 but took three years off to stay home with my children and only subbed during that time. It has been such a wonderful experience opening a charter school after years in public and private education. Now it's time to let someone else take over the reins after this year ends.
Have a wonderful week.
