As you know, this week is Literacy Week, a time set aside by the Florida Department of Education to support literacy and encourage good reading habits for our students. The theme this year is Find Yourself in a Book! Students should be sure to have a book with them at all times particularly this week as the Literacy Team has activities planned for every day. Thursday night is our evening event for the whole family and I was delighted to see all of the volunteer spots have been filled. That ensures we will have plenty of food for the taco bar and helpers for the student activities while the parents attend a session on literacy and the resources offered by our public library system. There is,of course, no charge for this evening, but we do ask that parents NOT drop off students and leave. This is a family event. Come join us.
This week is also School Choice Week. SAA is one of eleven charter schools in Sarasota County, offering parents a choice for their children. We celebrate the fact that Florida offers parents a choice and that we are a part of this endeavor. The middle school students will be performing a special musical number on Friday as part of the weekly activities. SAA participates in this national celebration that began in 2011 and has grown to be the largest celebration of this kind. Thank you for entrusting your students to us.
I am sure the middle schoolers need no reminder of this, but Tuesday night is the audition night for Footloose. Footloose will be presented at the Players Theatre on Friday, May 18. Watch for announcements from the music department about rehearsals and program dates for all the elementary and middle school shows.
Thank you to all of the parents and students who came out for Skate Night last week. Thank you also to the PTO for sponsoring these evenings.
Have a wonderful week and please do try to join us for the Literacy Week activities.
