Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians of SAA,
Welcome back to SAA for our third year as a public charter school! We are delighted to have so many returning students and new students as members of the SAA family. It was a pleasure meeting you at the opening family picnics and the open houses recently and we look forward to seeing you all at the events at school this year. You are welcome to stop by the office to talk to any of us if you have a question, concern, or suggestion.
As you saw at open house, we have some changes on campus and in procedures. To start off, car line will probably be congested as everyone gets used to drop-off and pick-up procedures and tries to find the optimal time to arrive. Please be sure to pull all the way forward. Mrs. Julie will be there to greet arrivals beginning at 7:30 AM. We have a new gate at the front that will stay locked until 7:45 AM. (It stays locked from the outside throughout the day but is easily opened from the inside.) This week you can drop off at 7:30 without being a part of the before-care program. If students arrive between 7:00 and 7:30, they should enter by the back gate and go to the middle school building.
Students are in class from 8:00 until 4:00 PM. September is national attendance awareness month and we want to emphasize how important consistent attendance is. Recent research data shows the rate of attendance to be a reliable predictor of success in school, more important than test scores for drop-out prevention. Once the student is here, on time and ready to go, we want to emphasize that every student should be engaged in the learning process. An important theme this year is that "Everybody Works" - all of us, administrators, teachers, and students. We are promising to support our students through regular classes, mentoring and extended care. We are confident with your support, this can be the most meaningful year for all the students.
Pick-up begins at 4:00 pm. If you have the sign with your last name, please display it in the front window. Students staying for after-care will be signed out from the middle school building. Please enter from the back gate through room 10. There is no entrance through the front door off the JRA parking lot.
You are receiving a survey that will give us necessary information as we move forward with our technology. In it you will be asked about internet and technology access at home as well as whether you want a hard copy of the newsletter each week. Please return it to us this week. You should be receiving emails from us regularly; if you are not, please check that Kathy has the correct email address. You also will have access to teachers and information through "Crosspoint," Twitter, and/or Remind. Sixth grade parents, please remember the mandatory technology meeting on Tuesday, August 25 from 7 - 8 pm in the middle school building. Sixth graders will be piloting a one-to-one tablet program this year but parents must attend the meeting before the tablet can be issued to a student. This is important even if you do not have internet access at home.
Remember to send in the summer reading data. The party will be on Friday afternoon for all who have completed the assignment.
Once again, we're glad you here! We're looking forward to a great year! Please contact me if you need anything or have questions.
