Last week was hectic! We survived the School Board review of our charter renewal application, the 8th grade NAEP testing, and all the spring musical pictures. This week should be calm and totally focused on learning as we approach the beginning of FSA testing and the end of 3rd quarter. There are no activities or field trips planned for this week.
Wednesday we have our February SAC meeting at which we will review our progress towards our SIP goals for 2017-18. We are concentrating on reading and science improvement this year as well as continuing to work on math fluency. We ask that you continue to encourage your child to read on a regular basis and, especially in middle school, keep up with the homework assignments. Quite a few of our eighth graders are taking classes for high school credit. It's important that they maintain their high grades because they certainly don't want to enter high school with less than a 3.0 GPA. You can always know where your child stands academically by checking the parent portal. All classes 3rd through 8th grade will show up to date grades this week since we are nearing the end of the quarter on March 13. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the teacher directly or call the office for a conference.
Along the same line...all eighth graders need to check the high school of choice to be sure they do not miss any deadlines. School choice (without application to a special program) is open until 4:30 PM, March 16. This is completed online. Go to the school websites for specific instructions for programs such as VPA, IB, AICE, MAST, and Suncoast Polytechnic High School.
Important dates: March 3 - Applebee's Fund Raiser Breakfast to support the spring musicals
March 6 - FSA Writing Assessment for grades 4-8, beginning at 8:15 AM.
Have a wonderful week
