Last night was a special night at Circus Sarasota as our school winners for the "Attendance Counts" poster contest were honored. Thanks to the Patterson Foundation who sponsored the contest, all of the school winners and their families were treated to an exciting circus evening. Congratulations to Willow (K), Roxy (1), Katie (2), Ethan (3), Isabelle (4), Rachael (5), Riley B (6), and Sofia (7). Their posters will be posted on the SAA website later this week.
Mrs. Julie has asked that I remind everyone that all music students were given a letter to take home last week detailing the spring "Broadway" musicals and a "help" list for parents. Please return them this week because she will be in need of help for show picture day on February 22. There will be an Applebee's Flapjack Fundraiser breakfast on Saturday, March 5 from 8 10:00 AM to raise money to cover the transportation cost to the rehearsals for all five of the shows. More information will be sent home this week. Please watch for it.
Please remember to send in your renewal application information for next year. This Friday we will conduct the lottery for any classes having over the class size limit and students and siblings of students currently enrolled have priority. We plan to keep the total number of students at about 220, the same as this year. Our capacity is 18 students per grade level at Kindergarten through third grade, 20 in fourth and fifth grades, and 38 in sixth through eighth grades.
Last Friday, I represented Sarasota Academy of the Arts at the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce Education Leadership Day. I was able to share what we offer and how SAA enables students to participate in arts education. I hope I was able to convey the pride I take in our students and teachers and the opportunities presented for our 223 students. We have students who will enter high school with three high school credits already secured and others with two. We also have students who have had an opportunity to show their abilities in the fine arts and musical theater and will go on to further develop these talents in high school. SAA offers each child the opportunity from kindergarten on to experience success on the stage and through the visual arts.
Thank you to all of the parents who provided treats for the elementary Valentine's parties and middle school dance. We couldn't do all the things we do without the support of our parents.
Please continue to encourage your child to visit the www.fsassessments.org and i-Ready.com websites and to continue reading!
Have a great week!
