I hope everyone is enjoying the day off! No snow day for us tomorrow, so hopefully everyone will be ready to go again!
Thank you to Ada's mom (2nd grade) and Mya's dad (1st grade) for helping out on Saturday! Along the same lines, congratulations to Kelly Marsh and Fred Thibault who are the SAA Volunteers of the Year. Kelly is on the SAA Board of Governors, is Parent Liaison, Volunteer Coordinator, in charge of the yearbook, and manages the SAA website. Fred is a former high school teacher and master gardener who with Mr. Upholz wrote grants for gardening funds, directed the construction of our gardens, and helps instruct the students in the agriscience classes. Both of them give so freely of their time to help SAA be a better school. I deeply appreciate all they do for the SAA family.
A few reminders for this week...This week we will having hearing tests for the kindergarten, first, and sixth grade classes on Tuesday. Wednesday the middle school students will go to the Van Wezel for the Alvin Ailey Dance Performance. Please be sure they have their permission slips in and are dressed appropriately (no shorts) for the show. Thursday morning the advanced chorus will perform at Venetian Gardens.
Third quarter progress reports will be sent home this Friday and you can always check grades at the Cross Point website.
If you read Sunday's Herald Tribune, you saw another article on testing. Even though we have many days scheduled for testing, teachers and students continue to move forward with the curriculum. Please help them to manage their time so that homework and projects are completed. (Many of the students are also participating in rehearsals for the spring shows but they still are responsible for their assignments.) You can also encourage them to practice the tests at fsassessments.org. They will be practicing these at school as well. Each day the students in grades 3 - 8 open math class with a sample problem that helps prepare them for the type of questions they will be asked. Third and fourth grades will have paper tests in late March. Fifth through eighth will have computer-based tests beginning April 13. The schedule will be published soon on the SAA calendar.
Have a wonderful week.
