Wednesday of this past week was designated as Administrative Professionals Day so I want to take this time to officially thank Mrs. Kathy (Bechtel) for all she does at and for Sarasota Academy of the Arts. This day was first recognized in 1952 as Secretaries Day but the name was changed in 2000 to reflect the changes in the job descriptions. This certainly applies to Mrs. Kathy. In many schools, there is a clinic aide or nurse, an attendance clerk, a records clerk, and a receptionist as well as an administrative assistant to the principal. Mrs. Kathy fills all of these roles and does it in a highly effective way. She knows the name of every student and almost all of the parents by sight. We are fortunate to have her and I personally rely on her for so many things. Thanks, Mrs. Kathy, for being here for me, for the students, teachers, and parents. You're the best!
Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped out last week in the office, at the Book Fair, at the middle school carwash, with the musicals, and in the reading garden. Take a look at the reading garden if you get a chance. Thank you, Christine, Karin, Cynthia, Sharon, John, and Ms. Bryan for helping me spread the mulch! Also, thank you to Mrs. Howard and the fourth and fifth graders (and parents) who are developing the butterfly garden. We still have some jobs to finish, but we couldn't do nearly as much without our volunteers!
The third and fourth graders will be performing School House Rock Monday night at the Glenridge Theater at 6:00 PM. Performers should arrive by 5:30 PM. Tickets are $10.00 and available in the office and at the door. Come out and support these students in their spring performance. The kindergarten and first/second grade performances were last Monday and they were wonderful!
Testing schedule for this week is as follows:
Monday/Tuesday - 7th grade math
Tuesday/Wednesday - 5th grade math
Wednesday/Thursday - 6th grade math
Have a great week and check out the school calendar for this week's events.
